Torres Say : I Have No Problem With Aragonés. (June 13, 2008)
Fernando Torres has insisted that he has never had a problem with Luis Aragonés despite press reports that suggested he was furious at being substituted during the victory against Russia.
The Liverpool striker appeared to refuse to shake hands when coming off the field with the coach and the Spanish media made that the underlying story to the win.
After the opening win, Torres has stated that is mystified why the subject gained such importance and claimed that the squad gave its full support to Aragonés.
"There is no problem. I have spoken to the coach and know it was just another change. I have no problems with him," he said.
"It seems a shame that so much importance is placed on this when Spain won 4-1.
"The rules of the dressing room, that Luis taught me when I was 16 are those that have worked for me now and what is said in the dressing room stays there.
"I would never make a rude gesture to a coach and the squad are completely behind him."
Despite being tipped to be in with a chance of being the leading goalscorer at the tournament, Torres now wants his team-mate David Villa to take the honour.
"I hope that Villa be top scorer," he concluded.
